The Conway Stewart Churchill Bordeaux Chased
The award-winning Churchill model is now available in Bordeaux Chased acrylic named after the region of France famous for its red wine. The body and cap have been engine turned to have a beautiful tactile barley weave pattern carved into the material which not only looks stunning but has a wonderful feel. A must-have pen for any wine or pen connoisseur.
The relationship between the English and Bordeaux wine goes back a long time. In the 12th century the popularity of Bordeaux wines in England increased dramatically following the marriage of King Henry II and Alienor d’Aquitaine. The marriage made the province of Aquitaine English territory, and thenceforth the majority of Bordeaux claret exported to England in exchange for other goods. The citizenry of Bordeaux worked diligently to promote and foster their relationship with the English market. In 1205, the Spanish laid claim to Aquitaine and put Bordeaux under siege. The village was able to withstand the attack and King John rewarded the Bourgeois with orders for wine in excess of 120 tons. In 1224, King Louis VIII of France attempted to purge the English from French soil and was halted in his advance in the town of Bordeaux. In the aftermath Bordeaux received privileged access to the English market through London, and their exports to the market soon dwarfed the production from other French wine making regions.
