This is my fourth Conway Stewart pen made by Bespoke British Pens, and once again I find myself impressed by the quality; in this instance not just of the pen, but also the company's exceptional dedication to customer service. With my previous pens, everything was perfect without need of adjustments. Unfortunately, this time I wasn't completely happy, and reached out to see if something might be done to fix the unusually speedy drying out issues I was having. Response was swift, the issue has consequently been sorted and has become a thing of the past. Now I am free to fully appreciate my pen. I was surpsied by how slim the pen is, particularly the grip section, which due to its curves feels even slimmer in the hand than pens such as Kaweco Sport. No doubt the pen's size and shape is inspired by pens from the era in which the Detection Club was founded. I like the pen's looks, its design and heritage. I also like the font chosen for the inscriptions. It has become a little gem of a pen in my collection. A tip of the hat to customer service, and these tuned nibs are devine.
Pen looks great. It is not as large as the Churchill's but the brass insert gives a satisfying haft whilst maintaining fine balance; writes like a dream. It points firmly to 1930 (Detection Club foundation) but has the advantage of a modern feel. I use it mainly as a desk pen although it does travel well. Extremely stylistic but also wonderfully functional. I own no other pen like it.
This pen is, probably, one of the most interesting ones in my collection, and features a fascinating array of our most notable detective crime writers. I selected edition number 39, as a nod to John Buchan's The 39 Steps. The pen is, of course, flawlessly executed, and my choice of a Broad Stub nib writes as nimbly as if pursued by Poirot himself.
The presentation box was, as expected, well done. The pen itself has an understated elegance to it. I chose the medium nib with a right oblique as I’m left handed. Never tried that customization before but it seems to work well with the way I hold the pen. Ink flow is excellent and I’ve had no issues with starting if the pen has not been used for a while. My only very minor issue is that the nib section will loosen when undoing the cap. Just something to be aware of. All in all I’m very happy with it.
My wife gave me this for Christmas, and it has been in constant use since. This dark and beautiful pen is suitable for the office and for home. Of medium size and weight it will fit with most hands, and you will enjoy the combination of black, gold, and red. So comfortable to hold, and so nice to the eye.
